Job Description Job Description The Bone Marrow Transplant
Coordinator manages and coordinates all aspects of the complex bone
marrow and stem cell transplant process, with a primary focus on
ensuring the program adheres to the rigorous standards set by the
Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT). This
role typically requires a nursing or allied health background and
involves patient care, regulatory compliance, quality improvement,
and education. Responsibilities Manages the clinical, psychosocial,
and financial aspects of care for transplant patients. This
includes conducting pre-treatment interviews, coordinating
pre-transplant evaluations, facilitating donor searches, and
managing post-transplant follow-up. 17% Ensures that all program
activities and documentation meet the standards of regulatory
bodies like FACT, the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP), and the
Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research
(CIBMTR). This involves participating in quality improvement
initiatives, auditing records, and preparing for accreditation
surveys. 17% Maintains accurate and timely patient information in
the electronic medical record and specialized databases, and
submits required data to external registries like CIBMTR. 17%
Provides comprehensive education to patients and their families
about the transplant process, including risks, expectations, and
post-treatment care. The coordinator also serves as a clinical
resource and provides program guidance to other professional staff.
17% Collaborates in the development, implementation, and evaluation
of clinical protocols, guidelines, and standardized treatment
orders for the program's operations manual. 17% Manages the process
for evaluating and selecting suitable autologous, related, or
unrelated donors, and coordinates the cell mobilization and
collection processes while maintaining strict confidentiality. 15%
Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Qualifications
Education and/or Experience Required: Education: Bachelor's degree
in Nursing Experience: A minimum of two years of clinical
experience as a Registered Nurse, with specialized experience in
bone marrow transplant, hematology, or oncology is common.
Education and/or Experience Preferred: Education:Master's degree in
Nursing License and/or Certification Required: A current Registered
Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state is mandatory. Obtaining
a certification like Bone Marrow Transplant Certified Nurse (BMTCN)
or Certified Hematopoietic Transplant Coordinator (CHTC) within 3
years of hire Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge:
Day-to-day needs of patients on unit. Accreditation and
certification requirements and standards. Medical equipment as it
relates to patient care on unit. Skills: Strong organizational,
communication, and problem-solving skills are crucial for managing
the logistical and clinical complexities of the role. Emotional
resilience and empathy are also vital for supporting patients and
families through a challenging journey. Intermediate-level skills
in Microsoft Word and Excel. Aptitude with EHR systems. Effective
written and verbal communication skills. Abilities: Ability to
prioritize responsibilities with high level of critical thinking.
Ability to collaborate effectively with others. Ability to perform
a variety of duties without loss of efficiency or composure.
Communicate both orally and in writing with people from every
diverse socioeconomic, cultural and educational background.

quality assurance programs, and enforce organizational and unit
