- As the Engineering Technician working in the Albany Field
Office, Inland Navigation Unit in Troy, New York, you will:
- Utilize MicroStation and CADD software to support engineers and
architects by providing technical design assistance and drawing
- Perform quality control review of generated products, archives
files, and maintains documentation.
- Prepare project plans and specifications for the maintenance
and repair of facilities and other infrastructure and maintenance
dredging of federal navigation channels.
- Utilize GIS software to create, query, map, and analyze raster
data and perform integrated vector-raster analyses to explore
- Utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) databases and
software to create surface maps and two-and three-dimensional
surface models and maps.
- Perform project condition hydrographic surveys, reconnaissance
surveys and dredging surveys.
- Utilize computerized drafting and design (CADD) and Geographic
Information Systems (GIS) to provide support in the development of
maps, plots, engineering drawings, etc. for a wide range of

- Position requires a valid, state-issued motor vehicle driver's
license since project sites may be located in remote areas that are
not accessible by public transportation.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness

In order to qualify, you must meet the education requirements
described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience,
including volunteer work done through National Service programs
(e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g.,
professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community;
student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying
experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must
clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on
education, your transcripts will be required as part of your

Specialized Experience (GS-09): One year of specialized
experience which includes 1) Performs computer-aided drafting for
repair, maintenance and/or construction project bid documents; 2)
Prepares plans, specifications and as-built drawings for
engineering contracts; 3) Utilizes Geographic Information Systems
(GIS) to create maps and plan information for engineering projects;
and 4) Provides technical design and drawing production assistance
to architects and engineers.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work
performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal
Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full
years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to
such a degree or LL.B. or J.D. with a major course of study in
physical science, mathematics, architecture, and electrical or
mechanical systems, or other fields related to the position.
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of
education and experience may be used to qualify for this position
as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least
100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your
total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of
completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first
